Graduate Study Plan at Nanjing University

Introduction

My name is Zhang Wei, and I am a prospective master’s degree student at Nanjing University. My academic interest is in the field of economics, particularly in the areas of development economics, international trade, and econometrics. I believe that pursuing a master’s degree from Nanjing University will help me achieve my academic and career goals.

Academic Background

I completed my undergraduate studies in economics at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan, China. During my time there, I developed a strong foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and international trade. I also gained practical experience through internships at several financial institutions, which allowed me to apply the theoretical knowledge I had acquired in the classroom to real-world situations.

After graduating with honors in 2018, I worked for two years as a research assistant at the China Center for Economic Research at Peking University. My main responsibilities included collecting and analyzing data, writing research reports, and assisting in the organization of academic conferences. Through this experience, I realized that I am particularly interested in the intersection between academic research and policymaking.

Purpose of Graduate Study

My ultimate goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in economics and become a leading academic in the field of development economics. I believe that obtaining a master’s degree from Nanjing University will provide me with the necessary academic and research skills to achieve this goal. Nanjing University’s economics department has a strong reputation for research in the areas I am interested in, and its faculty includes leading experts in development economics and econometrics.

In addition, Nanjing University’s location in the heart of Jiangsu Province provides unique opportunities for research on China’s economic development. Research Interests

My primary research interests are in the areas of development economics, international trade, and econometrics. I am particularly interested in studying the impact of trade liberalization on economic development in emerging markets, the role of institutions in promoting economic growth, and the measurement of economic inequality using micro-level data. I believe that these topics are important for understanding the challenges facing developing economies and for formulating policies that promote inclusive growth and poverty reduction.

Future Career Goals

After completing my master’s degree at Nanjing University, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in economics at a leading university in the United States or Europe. I hope to eventually become a professor of economics and contribute to academic research in the areas of development economics and trade policy. I also hope to work closely with government and international organizations to promote policies that reduce poverty and promote sustainable economic development.
